A year or more ago I wrote a story I referred to as a “junkpunk” novel. It was a story about a girl who can bring rusted, broken down machines to life using magic fireflies. This girl, Clara Danvers, is a conduit. She lives in a world where generations past the world went dark. Electricity blinked out and never turned back on. Nature grew up to reclaim the world of skyscrapers, computers, and automobiles. Cities fell into ruin. Some who survived moved to small communities, forsaking the old world and the creations man had invented in an attempt to touch the heavens and immortality. Others roam the cracked, dusty highways and roads collecting the junk left behind by the old world, seeking to not forget. Among these people emerged conduits to bring light back to the world… whether the world was ready for the magic or not.
Instead of trying to sell “Conduits” as an ebook or in paperback, I’m letting the story out into the world a week at a time, a chapter a week. “Conduits” will be a serialized story. Every Tuesday a new chapter will appear here on website and on Wattpad.
For those wondering, this is a YA story. Suitable for teenagers, young adults, and adults. If you want me to compare the story to other works out there, I’d say think of the Ruins by Dan Wells mashed up with the Mad Max movies. This is a weird tale with faeries that bring machines to life, crumbling cities, junkyard monster machines that haunt highways and create nightmares.
I encourage people to comment on each chapter, either on Facebook, Google+, here on the site after each chapter, or on Wattpad. Let me know your thoughts and feelings as each piece of Clara’s adventure is revealed.
Head on over to the Conduit page and to the table of contents (click here) to start reading or go directly to the Prologue posted today (click here). You can also read the story at Wattpad (click here). I hope you enjoy Clara’s tale.
See you each Tuesda
