Posts have been lite lately. I’ve been working on some new ideas and so there’s been very little to report.
Sometimes getting a new idea in fighting shape is difficult. I sit in front of my keyboard and screen and my mind gets all tangled. It’s like putting dough through a pasta maker. A lot of stringy noddles come out, but they’re uncooked, fragile. Same thing when you’re developing ideas. Except the ideas are no noddles, these are big octopus tentacles and they will not be shoved into a boiling pot of water without a struggle. Sometimes it feels like the tentacles win. Other times, they can cooperate. I’ve been struggling with an idea. Adding new concepts, characters, plot points… only for it all not to seem… I don’t know… right.
So today I scrapped my notes and started from scratch. With a new batch of dough. A lot of the stuff I was working with before is back but only the stuff I deem the “good”, or heaven forbid the “great”. The stuff that worked. I’m also adding a lot of fun and adventure, two incrediants I beleived were lacking in the recipe.
On another front: the latest manuscript. I sent the thing off to another beta reader recently. Hopefully he’ll have it back soon and then one more look by another beta reader. Oh… and a little more editing, just a polishing. Good news… my query letters and summaries for potential agents are in the can and ready to go.
Till next time. Cheers!
