I liked what Maile Meloy had to say about writing for young adults and kids. Her article was posted on the Wall Street Journal’s website (click here to read). And she’s correct! In short, what I take away from the novel is simple. Adults and kids are similar when it comes to reading, the same things that excite adult readers when reading adult books excite younger reader when reading novels. That’s why so many adults pick up the Harry Potter books and the like. Everyone wants a fast-paced story that is entertaining, fun, and emotionally gripping. Sometimes the best way to attain that story is to let go, have fun, and infuse an unchained passion into the writing with no worries or concerns.
But, hey, I’m not going to recite Ms. Meloy and her ideas. Read her article. Here is the link again, click here.
